  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Clos M -- Is rain water always clean : The book is well written but the writer forgot to touch on storage of water for those residents of highly industrialized area, think of toxic effluent and gases which can brought back to our storage tank through rain water. My delimma how safe is that water? ( Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2021 )
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from K. J. Pratt -- Not useful : After a very confusing and contradictory section on methods for plumbing and installing a rainwater collection system, the author states on p. 104, "Hire a professional to install your system..". For a book that touts itself as a "Complete Guide to Collect, Use and Store Rainwater," advising the reader to hire a professional totally misses the point. I bought the book for help on how to do it myself. I have built houses and plumbed them, and I wanted specific help on how to do a system like this. Some of the ideas in the book are total nonsense: Page 136 advises using a pump that creates "5 psi, as this will provide ample pressure for most residential spray heads." This is totally ridiculous. Drip systems require a minimum of 8 psi, and spray heads require much more. If I want to use the water in the house, even for non-potable uses such as toilets and washing machine, I would need something is the area of 40-50 psi. Total waste of money buying this book. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Ejeks -- Water scarcity : With record breaking disasters in almost every major city you can think of in the developed countries, you will be hard pressed to imagine that these will not result in some form of trouble. Or should I say, lead to another form of disaster. Even with the natural disasters, many cities all around the world are reporting on water scarcity. This book delves into simple solution that anyone can adopt to help them reach clean water sufficiency in no time. It's hard for someone to think about rain as a source for clean water but it’s not far-fetched at all. All you need is the right information how to collect it, process the water and deliver it for everyday use. All that information you can find in this book. I now see and think about rain water differently. For transparency, I got an ARC of this book. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Eric Shoars -- Literally everything you'd want to know about RWH : Collecting rain water has been been an increasing subject of conversation. Collecting rain water (also known as Rain Water Harvesting) is not as simple as putting a barrel under your downspouts and waiting for the next shower to pass through (unless you're using it simply to water your plants/garden). RWH is a complex matter (much more complex than I had imagined) but can definitely make a difference in using all water responsibly. As one other reviewer noted, the cleanliness of the rain water (especially in urban areas) is a concern but the author lays out how to properly install a system that includes utilized filters and filtration systems so you're not consuming foul water. If you're considering RWH as a real option for your home, I would suggest reading this book before making a decision either way. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from C. Lampos -- Comprehensive and detailed : My husband is an urban farmer and the whole idea of rainwater harvesting has been banted around our house for a long time. This is the book that my husband needs in order to create a self sufficient backyard rainwater system. The author has laid out the history of storing rainwater, the need to do so, and, most important, the many ways that it can be attained in diverse situations. There are step by step instructions on all the tasks, and checklists to ensure it is done correctly. The diagrams and illustrations are in color and exceptionally photographed or drawn. For any gardener, urban farmer, or suburban resident, muchless a homesteader, this is the one and only book that will be needed on this subject. Well done. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from John R. Wallace -- An enormous undertaking : The title of this book would make a reader believe that harvesting rainwater would be something a beginner might attempt. The contents of the book actually reveal that harvesting rainwater is an extremely complex undertaking. I don’t understand why measurements are in the European style rather than in both metrics and foot/inches. The book does point out the shortcomings of various roofing materials that may not be suitable in addition to the amount of maintenance one needs to perform on a regular basis. Although without any prices being mentioned, the book does cover the many types of storage facilities, pumps, and disinfectants. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Avid-Reader-2010 -- Very good instructional guide : Though the writing can sometimes make this a tedious read, it is nevertheless an invaluable resource providing information regarding sustainability and instructions on how to construct a system for collecting rainwater for your own use. It's not necessary for you to be a back-to-nature fanatic to find this guide, (which contains a detailed list of the benefits of rainwater collection) very useful. Not only can collecting and using rainwater save you money, but it also aids the ecology of our planet. Win-win situation. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2021 )
